Our team is dedicated to ending food insecurity with fresh, culturally appropriate food. From staff to board members, each plays a vital role in our mission.

Board of Directors

Jonathan Steiner, President

Keith and Polly Steiner Family Foundation, CEO

Jonathan Steiner was a partner at McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon until 2014, when he joined Steiner Family, Ltd. and related family companies to assist in management of the companies’ real estate assets.  He also serves as the CEO of the Keith and Polly Steiner Family Foundation.  He has served on the Board of a number of non-profit organizations and was recently the President of the Outrigger Canoe Club.  Jonathan is married with one child in college. 

Mike Brock

Mike Brock, Vice President

Executive Director of Ho’ohui

Mike is an executive leader who loves to support organizations who want to build teams and environments that promote health, wellness, and stability. He is not only passionate about systems entrepreneurship and guiding community leaders, but also has over 15 years of non-profit management experience. Some of the areas he is most passionate about building out are strong operational structure, fiscal responsibility, innovation, and scalable growth.

Kevin Shimamura, Treasurer 

Island Insurance, Controller

Kevin is the Controller of Island Insurance where he oversees the accounting and finance department.  Prior to joining Island Insurance, Kevin worked as a Vice President and Senior Manager at Bank of Hawaii in various roles ranging from deposit product and strategy to commercial operations.  He began his career working for CPA firms in Washington state and Hawaii.  A graduate of Iolani School, Kevin earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Darren Ishimura, Secretary

Hawaiian Electric, Director of Grid Technologies

Darren leads Hawaiian Electric’s technology team responsible for scouting and coordinating the evaluation of innovative technology solutions, through R&D and piloting, that will integrate into its business and provide benefits for its customers. Darren holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and is a registered mechanical engineer in the State of Hawai‘i.

Peter Kang

Developer/Entrepreneur

Peter is a seasoned entrepreneur and business owner, having started and operated restaurants and bars in New York and Seoul, chain of pet care facilities, real estate development and commercial TV production and post production agency. He also worked for a family advertising agency in New York and a family-owned Asian arts and antique dealer.

Chris Martin

Young Brothers, Vice President of Operations

Chris, a Hawai’i island native, has worked with Young Brothers for almost 17 years as the overseer of statewide shipping operations. When he is not busy advocating for workplace safety and accident prevention, Chris volunteers with other non-profits around the island of Oahu.

Brandon Souza

Real Estate Broker, Coldwell Banker Realty

Brandon Souza is a Hawaiʻi-based entrepreneur and real estate broker with experience spanning real estate, politics, media, education, and cultural leadership. He is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaiʻi, where he earned a degree in Political Science.

A licensed broker with Coldwell Banker Realty (RB-23419) and an International President’s Circle Award recipient, Brandon focuses on land and legacy, representing clients in meaningful deals.

He serves as Vice President of the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce and is the founder of Hixecutive Sessions, an executive platform highlighting leaders across Hawaiʻi.

Brandon is a husband and father of four who attributes any success to God and family.

Alan Tang

Olomana Loomis ISC, CEO & Chief Strategy Officer

Alan Tang has spent more than four decades helping companies grow. As a strategist, he provides counsel on business development, capital funding, marketing, branding, public relations, advertising, digital marketing, and crisis communications. He is the founder and CEO of Olomana Loomis and he is on the board of ICOM, a global network of independent agencies and serves as its director for the Asia Pacific region. Alan is married with two grown children, one in Hawaii and the other living on the U.S. mainland.

Phyllis Unebasami

Consultant / Retired Educator

Phyllis has served as an educational leader in private and public institutions. She currently serves as a consultant to various nonprofits and volunteers in community efforts to support our vulnerable families and children.

Dean Wang

Partner, Pierson Ferdinand

Dean is a partner at Pierson Ferdinand where he counsels publicly traded corporations, physician organizations, hospitals, healthcare facilities, public utility companies, telecommunication companies, hedge funds, biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical companies, technology start-ups, and closely held companies.

Paulette Wo

Advocate/Volunteer

Paulette is a lifelong advocate and volunteer in Hawaii, having dedicated her numerous talents and skills to creating a positive impact across multiple industries. She currently focuses her efforts on helping the underprivileged through charities like The Pantry.

Ruthann Yamanaka

Chief People Officer, Outrigger Hospitality Group

Ruthann has been responsible for Outrigger’s human resources function at Outrigger since 2006, with prior work experience at Alexander & Baldwin, Hawaiian Airlines, Bank of Hawai‘i, the Headstart Program, and the Waimānalo Children and Youth Program. She has a degree in biological sciences and a master’s degree in public health. She has been involved in supporting a range of non-profits, having served as President-Girl Scout Council of Hawai‘i; co-founder, Child and Family Service (CFS) Guild; and President-Junior League of Honolulu, while currently serving on the Board of The Variety School of Hawai‘i.

Jennine Sullivan

Executive Director

 Jennine is a strategic operations professional with extensive domestic and international experience developing and growing businesses from startup through enterprise level. Prior to The Pantry, Jennine served as an independent business strategy consultant for mid stage startups, small businesses, and accelerators. She also held senior roles across multiple startups, GE Ventures, and GE. A graduate of Punahou School, Jennine earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Babson College and holds a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management from The Pennsylvania State University.

Robin Bremer

Programs Manager

Robin Bremer-Sherley is a community-focused program professional with a background in qualitative research, organizational operations, and public sector service. She brings experience in designing and supporting systems that empower local families and improve access to nutritious food across Oʻahu. Before joining The Pantry, Robin worked in community-based research and service initiatives aimed at addressing systemic barriers to food security. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration. In addition to her work, Robin actively volunteers with several local organizations committed to social equity and community well-being.

MJ Barker

Volunteer Coordinator

Madison Barker first joined The Pantry by Feeding Hawai‘i Together as an intern, where she quickly connected with the mission to provide fresh, culturally relevant food with compassion and dignity. Now serving as Volunteer Coordinator, she oversees volunteer operations, helping create a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and supported.

Madison earned her bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences with a minor in Public Health from the University of Arizona and is currently pursuing her master’s in Dietetics and Nutrition at Grand Canyon University. She is passionate about helping individuals access healthy food and healthcare resources so they can live their fullest lives.

Outside of work, she enjoys paddling and strengthening Hawai‘i’s local food system by supporting families and local farmers.

Jonny Kamai

Warehouse Coordinator

Jonny was born and raised in Hawaii, Jonny has had a lifelong passion for music that led to a successful career as a musician. Over the years, he not only honed his craft but also became deeply rooted in the local community, raising his family here on ‘Oahu. Today, he shares his musical expertise as a dedicated teacher, and by serving others through his work at The Pantry.
Ricky Uyeno

Ricky Uyeno

Warehouse Coordinator

Ricky was born and raised on Oʻahu and spent 20 years in the U.S. Coast Guard as a chef. He began volunteering with The Pantry in 2019, where the mission to provide fresh, healthy food immediately resonated with him. A graduate of Kapiʻolani Community College’s culinary program, Ricky brings his passion for serving the community to every shift. Outside of The Pantry, he coaches flag football, rugby, and volleyball.

Gill Berger, President Emeritus

Principal, Cerity Partners,  Chairman Emeritus

Gill is Principal in Honolulu, Hawai’i with extensive experience in wealth and financial advisory services, non-profit leadership, and family estate planning.

Before joining Cerity Partners, Gill served as Board Chair of Pacific Rim Bank, prior to serving in a consultant role with First Foundation. Currently, Gill serves as President of The Pantry, by Feeding Hawai’i Together. He is also Board Chair of the Hawai’i Small Business Development Center and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Gill enjoys making time for swimming, cooking, traveling with his wife Laurelyn.

Greg Rice, Founder, Chairman Emeritus

Solid Rock Group/Solid Rock Advisors, Founder/Owner

Greg is a Principal and Founder of Solid Rock Group and a real estate professional with more than 45 years of diversified experience. Since founding Solid Rock Advisors in 1991, Greg has the led the firm’s involvement in more than $8 billion in transaction volume, involving nearly 200 properties. Greg has been involved with The Pantry since its beginning in 2003, and serves as Chairman Emeritus.
 

Craig Chong

Craig is a trusted strategic advisor and executive coach working with visionary leaders and teams to build on big ideas that have an extraordinary impact and achieves exponential success.

Sondra Ouye

Abl Collective, Founder

Sondra worked for 20 years as a financial auditor and business management consultant before joining the GoFarm Hawaii farmer training program in 2024. In 2025, Sondra founded a regenerative agriculture collective of farmers and makers committed to ethical entrepreneurship and sustainable practices.

Steve Sue

Bizgenics Foundation, Chairman

Steve is a social venturer, primarily in technology-based plays at SaaS Ventures, and Chairman of Bizgenics Foundation, a Hawaii-based 501(C)(3) that specializes in creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship programs. His career includes 25 years as a story expert, conceptualist and startup guy in entertainment, hospitality, food service, retail, product and software development. Steve holds a BA in design from UCLA and a JD from UC Berkeley.

Joyce Timpson

Ocean Blue Hawaii, Director of Strategy

Joyce is a key figure in Hawaii’s marketing and advertising industry, having built campaigns from the ground up for more than 70 real estate projects. In 1980, she established Joyce Timpson & Associates and now 39 years later, collaborated with Japanese conglomerate Takami Holdings Ltd to create Ocean Blue Hawaii + Japan.

Valerie Wang

Entrepreneur/Kaiser Permanente, Senior Manager

Valerie is a serial entrepreneur with over 16 years of experience in start-ups, business development, marketing and management. She currently oversees sales and account management for the PEO and multi-state lines of businesses at Kaiser Permanente. She was a founding member of Makai HR, a boutique professional employer organization based in Hawaii, where she served as its president for two and a half years. Valerie is a member of Rotary International and volunteers with the Hawaii Innocence Project. She also serves on the board of the Bizgenics Foundation.

M. Pia Chaparro, PhD, MS

Assistant Professor at University of Washington School of Public Health

Pia is a Public health nutritionist with training and experience in domestic and international settings, with an overarching focus of addressing social inequities in nutritional outcomes.
